Do you think Leonard Cohen is referring to S&M? Or is he saying "if you want to sleep with someone else, I will turn a blind eye"?

I think he's saying that he'll be whoever 'you' want, even if it means going against his character. Even though he wants to beg and plead and satisfy your every wish, he'll be different, if only he and you could come together.
Interesting interpretation. I had not thought of that.
I think he's saying he wants to be the person's lover, but if she want's a friend or something he'll pretend to be that too.
Or it's totally about S&M.
